一对陷入财务困境的夫妻发现GPS系统能找到被盗的金子，但是他们必须和一对神秘的旅行者合作，在冬天深入荒蛮之郊。。故事发生于1926年的德国，安娜（纳嘉·乌尔 Nadja Uhl 饰）和罗特（斯科拉·鲁特 Thekla Reuten 饰）是情同手足的姐妹，他们的父母在两人六岁时双双去世了，留下孤苦无依的两姐妹。叔叔收养了身体较为强健的安娜，体弱多病的罗特则被阿姨和姨丈带走了，自此两姐妹一个生活在德国一个生活在荷兰，再也没有见过面。 叔叔对待安娜非常的粗暴，安娜每天都要干数不清的活，还会动辄遭到辱骂殴打。罗特就幸运得多的，阿姨对待她如同亲生女儿一般视如己出，让她接受良好的教育。虽然两个姑娘没有见面，但她们的内心里都在深深的想念着彼此。二战爆发了，纷飞的战火中，罗特和安娜在德国见面了。。Five centuries ago a mural was created in a country church in the north of England and then hidden under layers of white paint.
