该剧在1985年5月期间刚刚定妆，本来是由翁美玲和汤镇业共同主演，而翁美玲也将此作为两人重新开始的一个契机，但是在定妆记者会时正好发生了汤镇业与某女星共同在海滩嬉戏的新闻，令翁和汤在化妆间大吵一架，随后只拍摄了一场戏的她即告自杀，而该剧中她的角色随后由张曼玉代替出演。。骑兵队长约克驻守在得克萨斯州的要塞里，与印第安人发生了军事磨擦，儿子加入了他的部队，妻子也迫不及待的搬入了要塞。在家庭矛盾面前，他顽固的军官性格差点毁了整个家庭，但最终重归于好。在出现家庭的完美结局的同时，战斗也以印第安人的失败而告终……。In a confused welter of artistic licence, this is the classical music biopic which makes 'Song to Remember'look like a masterpiece.
