马锡五曾任陕甘宁边区政府专员、陕甘宁边区高等法院陇东分庭庭长、高等法院院长等。他在陇东工作期间，改变旧的衙门官老爷式的审判作风，走群众路线，以调解为主，受到群众的爱戴和拥护，被称为“马青天”，毛泽东在延安亲笔给他题词：“一刻也不要脱离群众”。 剧中涉及的案件均以历史上的真实案例为基础，特别是刘巧儿婚姻纠纷一案(解放初由新凤霞主演的著名评剧《刘巧儿》据此创作)，被称为“近代八大奇案之一”，此案经过马锡五审理后，并提出自由恋爱和婚姻自主，在陕甘宁边区引起了一场婚姻革命。。由导演同名短片拓展而来，入围2019年圣塞巴斯蒂安电影节新导演竞赛单元。 On her graduation day, Charlotte learns her first love has returned to her small Georgia town for the first time since vanishing the year before, in the midst of an awful trauma in her life.
